This Month of Love, Let’s Talk About Respect and Safety
As we celebrate love this February, remember that love should never hurt. Sadly, many girls and women are hurt and controlled in the name of love. Gifts like roses and kind words should never be used to hide bad behavior or force someone to do things they don’t want to.
Love means respect, not fear. Love means safety, not control. Love means kindness, not violence.
Too many girls suffer in silence because they don’t recognize the signs of gender-based violence (GBV). GBV can be emotional, physical, sexual, or financial, but it always means someone is not respecting you.
This Valentine’s month, let’s understand what real love is:
๐ Real love empowers.
๐ Real love respects boundaries.
๐ Real love never hurts.
At Girl Child Movement Botswana (GCM), we are committed to empowering girls and educating communities about healthy relationships, respect, and safety. If you or someone you know is being hurt, speak up. You deserve to live in peace, respect, and freedom. We stand against GBV and won’t allow it to be hidden under the name of love.
