MY STORY

Sadi’s life changed drastically when she was just 6 years old. Both of her parents passed away suddenly, leaving her an orphan in her small village in Botswana. With no family to turn to, she was taken in by an elderly aunt who could barely afford to feed herself. The loss of her parents weighed heavily on Lebang, but even more daunting were the challenges that lay ahead.

Life was a daily struggle. Despite the hardships, Sadi had a deep hunger for knowledge. She believed that education was her only way out of poverty.

As she grew older, the weight of her circumstances felt heavier. Many girls in her situation would drop out of school, forced to work to support their families. But Sadi was determined to carve out a different path for herself. She used her grief and struggles as fuel, working hard and eventually earning a scholarship to attend university.

While at university, Sadi realized that her story was not unique. Many girls like her faced the same challenges—poverty, loss, and societal pressure. She knew she had to share her journey, not just for herself, but for others like her. She began writing in her journal, documenting her life as an orphan and the battles she had faced.

What started as a personal outlet quickly grew into something bigger. Sadi decided to turn her writings into a book, Life is a wheel : detailing her life and the obstacles she had overcome. The book became a beacon of hope for young girls across Botswana. It resonated with many, especially those who had felt powerless in the face of their struggles.

But writing the book wasn’t enough for Sadi. She wanted to create lasting change, so she founded Girls Movement Botswana, an organization focused on empowering orphaned and vulnerable girls. Through the movement, she provided mentorship, education support, and advocacy for girls’ rights. Her story and the movement inspired young girls to rise above their circumstances and chase their dreams.

Lebang’s journey from orphanhood to author and activist was filled with hardship, but through her determination, she became a voice for the voiceless, showing girls that no matter where they came from, they had the power to write their own futures.
